What is Ifá?
Ifá is a sacred divination system and body of spiritual knowledge originating among the Yoruba people of West Africa. Recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Ifá encompasses a vast oral literary corpus known as the Odù — 256 chapters containing poetry, proverbs, stories, and teachings passed down over thousands of years.
At its heart, Ifá is a system for understanding one's destiny, navigating life's challenges, and living in harmony with the divine. The babalawo — meaning "father of the secrets" — serves as priest, counselor, and keeper of this wisdom.
"Ifá teaches that each person arrives on earth with a unique destiny — and that through knowledge, devotion, and right action, we can fulfill the highest potential of that sacred path."
Living Tradition
Ifá is not merely history — it is a living, breathing spiritual system practiced daily by millions across Nigeria, Cuba, Brazil, and the diaspora worldwide.

Our Heritage
Six Generations of Babalawo Tradition
The Adeleye lineage carries one of the most enduring strands of Ifá priesthood — a sacred thread woven through six unbroken generations of dedicated babalawo. Each generation received initiation, training, and consecration from their fathers and grandfathers, preserving the purity of oral transmission as Ifá requires.
This is not a reconstructed tradition or a modern interpretation — it is a living inheritance directly connected to the ancient groves and sacred houses of Yorubaland. The teachings of the Adeleye Academy flow directly from this ancestral well.
Today, this lineage extends its reach through modern education — bringing authentic Ifá knowledge to students and seekers across the diaspora who hunger for their spiritual roots.
A Root That Holds
Six generations means more than longevity — it means tested wisdom, refined practice, and an unbroken covenant with Orunmila, the Orisha of wisdom and divination.
Passed Hand to Hand
In Ifá tradition, knowledge must be transmitted directly — teacher to student, elder to initiate. This sacred continuity is the guarantee of authenticity.
Global Mission
Rooted in Yorubaland, reaching across the Atlantic diaspora to reconnect African descendants with their spiritual heritage.
